Statements Of Solidarity

Statement on the Uvalde School Shooting

The Board of Trustees and staff of Rockwell Fund, Inc. join in the collective sorrow and outrage expressed around the world due to students and teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas being shot to death on May 24, 2022. Mass shootings are all too common throughout the United States, and research reveals that Texas is a national leader in the number of mass shootings with the attendant personal injuries and loss of life. As human beings, Americans, Texans, and representatives of a Houston-based private foundation that supports and funds community health and education programs, this tragic event, like so many others, again hits home painfully.

Students, teachers and, obviously, all Americans, have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; but none of that is possible if we must live in fear of being shot anywhere, anytime and for no reason. As the nation debates the next steps to prevent future random acts of hate-inspired killing, let us listen to each other carefully and decide whether the safety of our children, parents, spouses, and friends really matters.

These are divisive times. Yet we at Rockwell Fund believe that most Americans want peace, prosperity, and a better world for our families.  If that is true, the path forward should not be hard to find. It’s time for political courage and action to put in place effective gun control measures and fund all the health needs of our communities.

Rockwell Fund, Inc. Statement Regarding Systemic Racial Bias

The Board and staff of Rockwell Fund share the outrage and revulsion of our fellow Americans to repeatedly seeing Black citizens murdered by persons sworn to protect them. We renew our commitment to use our resources to further the causes of social justice and civil rights.

As previously in our nation’s history, events have awakened both the popular will and positive momentum to implement changes to how our police use deadly force and to fair housing laws, school discipline, and the social determinants of health, to name a few.  Let’s listen thoughtfully to each other, work together and keep our resolve.

We recognize the systemic bias against Black people in America.  Going forward, we will ensure to the best of our abilities that this bias is eliminated in all that we do.  Our goal is to support and join with persons and organizations who are committed to promoting equitable outcomes for all people, regardless of race or income, who seek fair housing, restorative justice in school discipline, and the elimination of health disparities and of the cradle-to-prison pipeline.  Let’s get it right this time.

Statement of Rockwell Fund, Inc. on Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month May 2021

Rockwell Fund, Inc. (RFI) applauds the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Chair Charlotte A. Burrows’ recognition and acknowledgement of Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month and the valuable contributions made by the AANHPI community to the United States of America. As Chair Burrow notes:

Over the years, AANHPI persons have positively impacted our economy and culture.  They have been successful in the business world and the arts, served in the military, and held public office, including Vice President Kamala Harris, who recently became the first person of South Asian descent to hold the Office of the Vice President of the United States.

The failure to acknowledge the AANHPI community’s contributions and value feed the continuation of episodes of hate crimes targeting this community. Violence, harassment, and discrimination against AANHPI persons is simply intolerable.

RFI appreciates the EEOC’s commitment to combating invidious discrimination. And, as we did after the tragic murder of George Floyd, RFI’s Trustees and staff reaffirm our commitment to using fund resources to support the civil rights of all Americans and to pursue social justice.

We will be part of the solution.
